PFCCO-Visayas' Members Join BSP's Piso Caravan as Currency Exchange Partners
Dumaguete City, August 8, 2025 — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Dumaguete Branch, under the leadership of Atty. Janice Jade V. Tan-Canonigo, Area Director, formally launched the Piso Caravan and led the Signing of the Pledge of Commitment of Negros Oriental Credit Cooperatives as official Currency Exchange Partners.
This initiative aims to strengthen BSP’s Clean Note and Coin Policy by providing the public, especially in far-flung areas, with accessible channels to exchange unfit, mutilated, or demonetized currency for clean and fit banknotes and coins.

PFCCO Visayas: Key Partner in Mobilizing Cooperatives
The Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives – Visayas (PFCCO Visayas) played an instrumental role in gathering its member cooperatives from Negros Oriental for this milestone event. Representing the federation, CEO Mr. Vincent T. Farole expressed strong support for BSP’s initiative, underscoring the cooperatives’ role in promoting financial inclusion, economic stability, and public trust in the Philippine monetary system.

“PFCCO-Visayas stands united with BSP in this meaningful endeavor, ready to work hand-in-hand in making every peso count for the benefit of our members, our communities, and our nation,” Farole affirmed.

Cooperatives Answer the Call
Ten (10) PFCCO Visayas member-cooperatives from Negros Oriental signed the pledge, officially committing to serve as BSP Currency Exchange Partners:
1. Negros Oriental High School Multi-purpose Cooperative (NOHS MPC)
2. Santa Barbara Katilingbanong Credit Cooperative (SBKCC)
3. Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital Credit Consumers Cooperative (NOPH CCC)
4. Bayawan Community Cooperative (BCC)
5. Bonbonon Farmers Agrarian Reform Multi-purpose Cooperative (BOFARMPUCO)
6. Negros Oriental State University Multi-purpose Cooperative (NORSU MPC)
7. Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative I Employees’ Credit Cooperative, Inc. (NECCI)
8. Valencia Agricultural Multi-purpose Cooperative (VAMCO)
9. Amlan Multi-purpose Agricultural Cooperative (AMPACO)
10. Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II Employees Multi-purpose Cooperative (NEMPCO)

In her message, Atty. Tan-Canonigo recognized the unwavering commitment of cooperatives to serve their members and communities, likening them to heroes who have been a lifeline for those in need — whether for emergencies, education, housing, or livelihood.

“Relative to our bank partners or centers, you may be smaller individually, but collectively, you are bigger. You are at the heart of every community. Thank you for never hesitating to heed the call to become heroes, by agreeing to become our currency exchange partners. Our reason for being is public service,” she said.

Pledge of Commitment
The cooperatives pledged to:
* Extend currency exchange services to both members and non-members
* Support efficient currency management and financial inclusion
* Promote public awareness on proper handling of money
* Ensure that only clean, fit, and genuine currency circulates in the economy
* Strengthen measures to combat counterfeiting
The signing ceremony was followed by the awarding of token to each cooperative, symbolizing their official role in safeguarding the integrity of the Philippine currency.

A Partnership for Financial Inclusion
With the Piso Caravan now underway, residents across Negros Oriental and Siquijor — especially those in rural barangays — will no longer have to travel far to exchange unfit or unserviceable currency. This collaboration between BSP and PFCCO Visayas member-cooperatives marks another step forward in ensuring that the Philippine peso remains a trusted symbol of the nation’s economic strength.

Daghang Salamat, and dayon ta sa BSP Dumaguete!
