What is a Cooperative Federation?
A cooperative federation (also called a secondary cooperative) is an organization formed by primary cooperatives to serve their common interests. While primary cooperatives serve individual members, federations serve cooperatives themselves.
Federations provide services that individual cooperatives cannot efficiently provide for themselves, including training, advocacy, technical assistance, and representation at regional and national levels.
The Story of PFCCO-Visayas
The Birth of a Movement
In 1958, visionary cooperative leaders across the Visayas region recognized that individual credit cooperatives, while serving their members well, could achieve greater impact by working together. This realization led to the founding of PFCCO-Visayas—a federation created by cooperatives, for cooperatives.
Our Founding Purpose
PFCCO-Visayas was established to unite credit cooperatives under a common banner, providing them with the collective strength needed to advocate for favorable policies, access resources, and share best practices. The federation embodies the sixth cooperative principle: Cooperation Among Cooperatives.
Growing Together
From our humble beginnings, PFCCO-Visayas has grown to serve 76 member cooperatives with combined assets exceeding ₱35 billion. Our federation has evolved alongside the needs of our members—from basic organizational support to comprehensive digitalization services, international programs, and business development assistance.
